The Reasons for U14-U16 Athletes and Coaches in the Hockey National Team Candidate Roster to Prefer Hockey

Abstract

Recently, many different sports branches around the World have started to attract the attention of individuals. The sport of hockey, which has become more popular in recent years, is one of them. As in many countries, the national team of hockey, which has branches and takes part in international competitions, is expanding in Türkiye as well. 48 athletes and 10 coaches participated in this study, which was carried out to determine the reasons why U14-U16 athletes and coaches in the national hockey candidate squad prefer hockey. The scale of why I am doing this sport and demographic information questions were answered on a voluntary basis by the participants. A total of 27 questions, 11 demographic and 16 scale questions, were asked to the participants. In this study, which has no analogues in the literature, it was determined that the father's education status and gender variables had a significant effect at the p<0.05 level on preferring hockey. According to the findings, it was also observed that variables such as sports age, monthly income, and the position played were not effective in preferring the hockey sport, which has just begun to be recognized.
