Abstract

The purpose of use of straw, which is mostly included in ruminant rations, can be listed as closing the roughage gap, adjusting the dry matter content of silage feeds, giving the animal a feeling of satiety and a source of roughage at the level of survival rate. However, straw cannot meet the needs of high-yielding animals with its high cellulose, low nutrient content and digestibility. For this reason, many methods including physical, chemical and biological treatments are applied to increase the nutritional value of straw. In this review, the studies on increasing the nutritional value and digestibility of straw were examined and the effect of the nutritional value of straw was tried to be revealed.
