Abstract

In the poultry industry, which ranks first in supplying the animal protein requirement in the world and in our country, the inputs are quite high due to the fact that the large amount of additives used is imported. However, feed additives in animal nutrition are used both to increase feed efficiency and to obtain the highest possible amount and quality of animal products with minimum expense. Recently, the increase in studies on domestic and natural alternative additives has gained. These feed additives are natural alternative additives such as enzymes, probiotics, prebiotics, organic acids, medicinal and aromatic plants. Phytogenic feed additives are generally used because of the positive effects of the bioactive substances they contain on animals. Although there are many limiting factors in poultry nutrition, there are studies showing that the high amount of bioactive components of laurel plant and its by-products can be used safely. In this review, the possibilities of using laurel plant and its by-products in the poultry nutrition, which have been used as an important spice plant in traditional medicine and kitchens for centuries, are discussed.
