Abstract

The horse has a special place and importance in Turkish culture. Turks have used the horse both as a means of transport and entertainment. One of the horse games used for entertainment is javelin sport. Javelin game is still kept alive in some provinces of our country such as Erzurum, Uşak, Manisa, Sivas, Bayburt, Erzincan, Kars and Malatya. Uşak province is one of the provinces in the Aegean region where the javelin game is the most popular and preserved. This traditional ancestral sport has gained an institutional structure in Uşak and has been continued with an amateur spirit. In this study, it is aimed to give information about the brief history of horse breeding, the status of horse breeding in the world, in Turkey and in the Aegean region, and the equestrian javelin, which is one of the important cultural heritages of Uşak province, and its problems.
